1 At what age did you become a crafter?
I have been crafting/designing as long as I can remember. My mom and I loved working on different things together when I was growing up. When we bought our first computer, I was addicted to making things in the "old school" Print Shop program. It was so much fun to design greeting cards, calendars and such. Everyone I knew got a home-made greeting card and banner for their birthday!
2 What made you what to start selling you "crafts"? I just graduated with my MBA. I really got a lot of background and excellent training to run my own business. It's always been a dream of mine to be my own boss. Plus, when it's time to have children, I'll have a flexible schedule so I'll be able to devote my time to my children. This is very important for my husband and I. We don't want our children to grow up with parents who can't leave work to tend to their needs.
3 Its craft show season are you planning to be a vender at any?
No, I just opened an office and will hold workshops teaching people how to do things like photo-retouching, digital scrapbooking, etc. My crafting is digitally focused. Most of the things I do are on the computer and exist in a file format - so I offer more of a service rather than a product.
4 What does diy mean to you?
DIY is so much more than just doing something by hand rather than purchasing it. It's an entire creative process. There is a lot of problem solving and coming up with unique approaches to do something rather than the "norm." DIY Creativity is the basis of my company. Its purpose is to encourage people to tap their creative potential and to realize that everyone can be a DIY-er. It just takes training yourself to think in a different way.
