1how did you come up with youre name?
I love to travel and I find that the most meaningful travel experiences are more than just getting from one place to another. It is the unexpected things, the serendipitous discoveries along the way, that make a trip special. I wanted to capture that in my name, destination:unknown.
2 how long have you been a Biz?
I created my first travel journal in the summer of 2004.
3 when did you start selling online?
Fall 2004.
4 Has selling online been hard for you ?
I wish it were true that “if you build it, they will come” but I’ve found that’s not the case. There is so much of everything available online, it’s a challenge to get the word out about your website, especially on a small budget. But the internet is amazing. This month I’ve had visitors from over 25 countries. How else could I reach that many people?
5 whats the one item you sell the most of?
My bedfordfalls pocket journals are very popular.
6 Are craft stores evil?
Crafts are a force for good, not evil!
7How many hours do you spend there?
I spend more time in paper stores than craft stores, in general. I have a hard time getting out of paper stores without maxing my credit card!
8 what item that you make
I make journals designed especially for travel. Because of the unique demands of travel, a good travel journal has be more than just paper inside two covers. Travelers need to be able to write while on the move, collect souvenirs, keep track of important information, and do it all with style and without adding to the burden of luggage. My journals include three types of paper for writing, recordkeeping, sketching and jotting quick notes, pockets for storing mementos and receipts, wire binding for easy writing anywhere, an elastic band to keep it all together. They are the best!
9 what is youre favorite ting to work with?
That’s easy – paper!
10 what do you see youre self doing ini say 10 years?
I hope I’m still doing what I’m doing now – making journals – because I love it. And I hope I can say I’ve been to all seven continents.
11 what is the coolest comment you have gotten from a customer?
A woman wrote to say that the journal she took to Hawaii has become a special keepsake. I am gratified when I learn that my journals become an important part of the travel experiences of others.
